Job summary

Lockheed Martin Space seeks a senior System Safety Engineer to lead a team of NSS system safety engineers and own safety processes across the product lifecycle. You will implement safety requirements, perform analyses, and influence design to mitigate hazards for space programs.

The role involves mentoring engineers, coordinating risk assessments, and supporting proposal activities while operating under strict security clearances in Sunnyvale, CA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline.
• Experience leading and mentoring diverse teams of engineers.
• Experience using MIL-STD-882E and AFSPCMAN/SSCMAN 91-710 or equivalent safety standards.
• Systems Engineering/System Safety Engineering experience including requirements derivation and verification.
• Experience evaluating contractual requirements across the product lifecycle.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret clearance; US Citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Manage and mentor a team of NSS system safety engineers.
• Directly support one or more NSS programs.
• Manage System Safety Engineering Processes across the product lifecycle.
• Develop and approve safety criteria for system design, equipment, facilities, and procedures to control hazards.
• Support Space Command Media maintenance and compliance checks.
• Lead program audits to ensure health across the Enterprise.
• Support LM Space new business capture including proposal coordination.
• Lead culture change initiatives within Systems Engineering and support missile/satellite programs.
• Identify opportunities for value-added modifications to stay competitive.
