Job summary

Dominion Energy is seeking System Protection Interns for Summer 2027 at our Woodbridge and Fredericksburg district offices. This internship offers hands-on experience in electric transmission, distributed across substation equipment, high-voltage tests, and protective relays.

Ideal for students pursuing engineering technology degrees who enjoy fieldwork and teamwork, with potential for full-time employment after successful completion and alignment with Dominion Energy’s career pathways.

Qualifications

Must be enrolled at a 2-year or 4-year school pursuing a Bachelor's or Associate's Technology degree.
GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Anticipated graduation date of Fall 2027 or later.
Weight restriction of 290 pounds applies on equipment.

Responsibilities

Review and interpret electrical design drawings.
Assist with infrared scans and basic instrument checkout and repair.
Participate in high-voltage diagnostic testing and relay testing.
Support functional testing of protection systems and control circuits.
Shadow System Protection Technicians to gain insight into substation equipment and field operations.
Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills with mechanical and/or electrical equipment.
Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
Solid math, technical, and mechanical aptitude.
Follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Good time management and organizational skills.
Meet physical requirements including: lift up to 50 lbs; weight limit 290 pounds; color vision, hearing, climbing, stooping, standing and bending.
