Job summary

Dominion Energy is seeking System Protection Interns for Summer 2027 at our Woodbridge and Fredericksburg district offices. This internships offers a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience in the field of electric transmission and distribution.

Interns will work closely with System Protection Technicians to develop a foundational understanding of substation electrical equipment, high-voltage diagnostic testing, protective relays, and control circuit troubleshooting.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled at a 2-year or 4-year school pursuing a Bachelor’s or Associate’s Technology degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Electromechanical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Mechatronic Technology or related fields.
• Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.
• Anticipated graduation date Fall 2027 or later.
• Weight restriction of 290 pounds applies to equipment.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret electrical design drawings.
• Assist with infrared scans and basic instrument checkout and repair.
• Participate in high-voltage diagnostic testing and relay testing.
• Support functional testing of protection systems and control circuits.
• Shadow System Protection Technicians to gain insight into substation equipment and field operations.
