Job summary

Dominion Energy is seeking multiple System Protection Technician Interns for Summer 2027 at our district offices in Herndon and Loudoun, VA. This internship provides hands-on experience in electric transmission and distribution, and the chance to work with System Protection Technicians to learn about substation equipment, high‑voltage diagnostics, relays, and control circuits.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled at a 2-year or 4-year school pursuing a Bachelor's or Associate's Technology degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Electronics Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Mechatronic Technology or other related disciplines.
• Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.
• Must have an anticipated graduation date of Winter 2027 or later.
• Weight restriction of 290 pounds applies; ability to lift up to 50 lbs; physical requirements including dexterity, color vision, hearing, climbing, stooping, standing, and bending.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret electrical design drawings.
• Assist with infrared scans and basic instrument checkout and repair.
• Participate in high‑voltage diagnostic testing and relay testing.
• Support functional testing of protection systems and control circuits.
• Shadow System Protection Technicians to gain insight into substation equipment and field operations.
