Job summary

Dominion Energy is seeking a System Protection Intern for Summer 2027 at North Anna Power Station. The internship offers a hands-on opportunity to gain real-world experience in Electric Transmission and Distribution.

Interns will work closely with System Protection Technicians to develop a foundational understanding of substation electrical equipment, high-voltage diagnostic testing, protective relays, and control circuit troubleshooting.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled at a 2-year or 4-year school pursuing a Bachelor’s or Associate’s Technology degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Electronics Technology, Instrumentation Technology, Mechatronic Technology or similar.
• Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA or higher.
• Must have an anticipated graduation date of Fall 2026 or later.

Responsibilities

• Review and interpret electrical design drawings.
• Assist with infrared scans and basic instrument checkout and repair.
• Participate in high-voltage diagnostic testing and relay testing.
• Support functional testing of protection systems and control circuits.
• Shadow System Protection Technicians to gain insight into substation equipment and field operations.
• Strong problem-solving skills with mechanical/electrical equipment and control circuits.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Good time management and organizational skills.
