Job summary

Jobot is seeking a System Performance Test Engineer with hands-on VoIP testing experience to perform detailed performance verification of mission-critical voice systems. You will validate voice-channel performance and audio quality through laboratory and system-level tests.

You will configure test environments, capture and analyze data, document defects, and work with cross-functional teams to resolve issues. Experience with SIP/RTP, Wireshark, Linux, and FAT/SAT processes is highly desirable.

System Performance Test Engineer - VoIP

We are seeking a System Performance Test Engineer with strong hands-on Voice over IP (VoIP) testing experience to perform detailed performance verification of mission-critical voice communications systems.

This role will focus specifically on validating voice-channel performance and audio-quality requirements through laboratory and system-level testing. The ideal candidate has experience testing VoIP or telecommunications systems beyond basic functional call testing and understands how to measure, analyze, troubleshoot, and document voice-channel performance characteristics.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, execute, and document detailed performance test procedures for VoIP and voice communications systems.
• Perform hands-on testing of voice channels, interfaces, network components, and integrated communications equipment.
• Verify voice-channel performance requirements, including:
  • Background noise
  • Idle channel noise
  • Impulse noise
  • Crosstalk
  • Frequency response
  • Intermodulation distortion
  • Harmonic distortion
  • Longitudinal balance
  • Gain tracking
  • Hybrid balance
  • Return loss
  • Tone elimination
  • Speech quality
• Configure test environments, instrumentation, endpoints, network connections, and system components required for performance testing.
• Capture and analyze voice and network performance data.
• Compare measured results against system requirements and defined acceptance criteria.
• Troubleshoot performance anomalies and isolate issues across hardware, software, network, interface, and configuration layers.
• Document defects with detailed test conditions, measurements, logs, and reproducible steps.
• Work closely with systems, software, network, hardware, and test engineers to investigate and resolve performance issues.
• Perform regression testing following software, hardware, network, or configuration changes.
• Support formal qualification testing, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), customer demonstrations, and system acceptance activities.
• Produce clear test reports documenting methodology, measurements, results, failures, and conclusions.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Hands-on experience testing VoIP systems.
• Demonstrated experience performing voice-channel performance testing, not solely functional VoIP testing.
• Experience testing and analyzing multiple voice-quality characteristics such as noise, crosstalk, frequency response, distortion, balance, gain, return loss, tone handling, and speech quality.
• Strong understanding of VoIP and telecommunications fundamentals.
• Experience developing and executing formal test procedures.
• Experience using test equipment and/or software tools to capture, measure, and analyze voice performance.
• Strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis skills.
• Ability to clearly document quantitative test results and technical findings.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with Air Traffic Management, air traffic control voice communications, radio communications, FAA systems, or other mission/safety-critical voice systems would be highly desirable. Additional experience with SIP/RTP, packet analysis/Wireshark, Linux, network testing, Jira, requirements traceability, automated testing, and formal FAT/SAT environments would also be beneficial.
