System Drives Field Service Technician

Reporting Line

This position reports to the Systems Drives Operations Manager.


Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to execute service work according to work instructions, ABB quality, and safety guidelines. Your daily tasks will include delivering quality customer service, planning, and executing service work based on customer orders and expectations. You will showcase your expertise by ensuring customer retention through effective communication of service timelines and expectations. The role is field service-based and can be performed remotely. It contributes to the Process Automation Process Industries division in Skowhegan, ME, and the surrounding region. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Collaborating with customers on-site to identify opportunities for operational improvements and pain point elimination.
  2. Performing field service tasks, diagnosing technical issues, and conducting analysis through remote or on-site activities within certified service categories and products.
  3. Preparing material lists for service activities and ensuring the availability and quality of all materials, parts, and equipment.
  4. Serving as a trainer for field service associates and customers when needed.
Team Dynamics

You will join a dynamic, talented, high-performing team within the Process Industries sector, where you can thrive.

Qualifications
  • Associates degree in a related field with 2+ years of work/military experience, or high school diploma/GED with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Understanding of AC and DC drive systems.
  • Experience in performing field service engineering for AC and DC drive systems, using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, data loggers, PDMA motor testing, and CMC measurements. Experience with ABB 800xA is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze and test hardware and software performance of OEM integrated machines.
  • Availability to work 24/7 as needed, with up to 80% travel required.
  • Proficiency in writing detailed technical service reports.
  • Skills in troubleshooting, testing, repairing, and servicing technical equipment.
  • Compliance with safety requirements and completion of safety training on schedule.
  • Legal work authorization for employment in the US.
