Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD is seeking a Regular full-time team member for its switchboard and call center operations. The role involves processing inbound and outbound calls, directing the public, and handling overhead paging and alarms.

Shifts are afternoon, every other weekend 3:00pm–11:00pm, with a strong emphasis on clear communication, teamwork, and maintaining patient privacy. High School diploma or GED and reliable telephone skills are required.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED Equivalent or 1 year related experience/training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to multitask in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to follow scripts and adapt to emergencies and alarms.

  • Identifies customer needs, clarifies information, researches, and provides solutions.
  • Follows communication scripts for call scenarios and emergency codes.
  • Maintains composure and efficiency while switching tasks.
  • Supports customer satisfaction and quality in daily operations.
  • Communicates clearly and professionally via overhead paging for emergencies and general info.
  • Maintains knowledge of hospital switchboard and phone systems.

A Brief Overview

Responsible for processing inbound and outbound calls, directing the general public, making overhead announcements, monitoring video surveillance, monitoring critical alarms, and processing emergency medical codes.

What You Will Do
  • Handles large amounts of inbound and outbound calls in a timely manner.
  • Identifies customer needs, clarifies information, researches, and provides solutions and/or alternatives.
  • Follows communication scripts for various call scenarios, alarms, and emergency codes.
  • Skillfully changes from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.
  • Actively participates in efforts to support customer satisfaction and maintain quality.
  • Effectively communicates with patience and understanding. Remains positive and professional in all internal and external interactions.
  • Communicates clearly, calmly, and professionally utilizing overhead paging system to communicate emergencies and general information.
  • Informs appropriate resource of any trouble lines reported by personnel.
  • Must maintain a working knowledge of hospital switchboard, phone system, and associated programs.
  • Assists with departmental operations during evenings, weekends, or other designated times as needed.

Required Education, License/Certification, Or Work Experience
  • High School or GED Equivalent or 1 year related experience/training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
