Job summary

Smithfield Foods, Inc. seeks a Production Manager to coordinate production across swine units, overseeing financial and production performance, contract growers, property and personnel management.

The role requires leading by example, enforcing animal welfare and biosecurity policies, and ensuring compliance with EMS and environmental regulations. Weekend/evening work and on‑call duties are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or related field with 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience leading/train­ing staff or managing a process or project.
• Valid state driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Prod Spec 1 completion or 2 years swine experience preferred.
• Ability to work an average 45 hour week, including weekends and holidays.
• On-call to respond to emergencies (power outages, personnel shortages).
• Strong math skills to evaluate production and financial performance.
• Good verbal and written communication, including presentations to groups.
• Supervisory experience with farm managers on multiple sites.

Responsibilities

• Learn, understand, and implement all policies relating to Biosecurity.
• Follow SIPS safety requirements and EMS processes.
• Ensure animal welfare policies and provide appropriate care and environment for animals.
• Inspect for disease or injury and prescribe medication as needed.
• Monitor and manage animal movements between farms.
• Support market sales at target weights and track performance metrics.
• Assist in developing farm managers and employees for improved compliance.
• Participate in EMS and ensure compliance with environmental laws.
