Job summary

Smithfield Foods in Sheldon, IA, invites skilled individuals to join our farm operations team. You will learn and certification across Breeding/Farrowing and Nursery/Finishing, gaining expertise in pig production processes and animal welfare.

This role emphasizes performance, safety, and environmental compliance. Being on call for emergencies and progressing through our leadership development program are key parts of the job, with opportunities for advancement within a supportive team

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or related field.
Able to work an average 48-hour week, including weekends.
Willing to relocate for training and first managerial assignment.
Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft software.

Responsibilities

Learn and certify in all farm department areas including Breeding/Farrowing and Nursery/Finishing.
Understand and implement pig production processes, animal flow, farm health, genetics, husbandry.
Perform and master all hourly jobs under supervision and become certified.
Develop and prepare reports on experiences and share opportunities for improvement.
Comply with environmental laws and EMS policies and procedures.
Complete Leadership Certification and support EMS compliance.
Act as acting HOD as needed by management and be on call for emergencies.
