The YMCA of South Hampton Roads in Virginia is seeking a dedicated Swim Lesson Instructor to lead classes, follow YMCA guidelines, and deliver age-appropriate instruction. You will build authentic relationships with students and parents, encourage volunteer involvement, and coordinate with families to connect them with appropriate aquatics programs.

This role requires current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification, BLS/First Aid, and the ability to demonstrate strong swimming techniques.

Qualifications

• Current YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification. If associate is Red Cross WSI certified he or she must crossover to YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor within 180 days of employment
• Current ASHI BLS, Basic First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification (or equivalent course from American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or National Safety Council). Any BLS certification is only good for one year
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards
• At least 16 years of age

Responsabilités

• Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, using prepared lesson plans accordingly
• Builds effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA. Encourages parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers
• Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate, refers students and parents to other programs
• Completes new staff orientation training as required, including bloodborne pathogens and child abuse prevention
• Maintains records as required (i.e., attendance, progress reports, etc.)
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as scheduled
• Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, best practices, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary
• Organizes and puts away needed class equipment. Reports damaged equipment
• Performs and adheres to safety, cleanliness, and uniform standards associated with COVID-19 prevention
• Assists in all areas and completes all projects and assignments as assigned by supervisor
