Job summary

The YMCA of NorthWest North Carolina is seeking a Swim Lesson Instructor to deliver private and group swimming instruction in accordance with YMCA guidelines, focusing on water safety, floatation and stroke technique for all ages. You will manage class engagement, track student progress, build positive relationships with participants and families, supervise aides, and ensure safety and records compliance.

This role requires CPR/First Aid certifications and YMCA Swim Instructor Certification

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Knowledge of swimming fundamentals, water safety standards, and proper execution of all swim strokes across diverse age groups.
• Strong organizational, verbal, written, and customer service skills to manage group dynamics and engage participants effectively.

Responsibilities

• Instruct private or group swimming lessons using prepared lesson plans to teach water safety, floatation, and stroke mechanics (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke).
• Build authentic relationships with students and parents, communicate program schedules, encourage parent involvement, and refer families to appropriate YMCA programs.
• Maintain accurate administrative records, including class attendance logs and student progress evaluations.
• Set up and organize lesson equipment before class, return supplies to storage following sessions, and report any damaged items promptly.
• Enforce all pool rules and YMCA emergency procedures, completing incident and accident reports whenever necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
