Job summary

YMCA seeks a Swim Instructor to lead private and group swim lessons, focusing on confidence, water safety, and skill development across ages. Instructors will teach according to YMCA Swim Lesson curriculum and adhere to safety rules in a pool environment.

The role requires scheduling flexibility, attendance tracking, and collaboration with the Aquatics team to ensure high-quality lessons and positive participant experiences.

Qualifications

• In accordance with state law, instructors must be at least 16 years of age.
• Six months’ experience working or volunteering with children, especially in a small-group setting is preferred.
• Must be able to correctly demonstrate and assess swim skills, with training provided.
• Ability to project voice clearly in a noisy pool environment.
• Onboarding includes training in YMCA curriculum and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Instruct participants on proper form and safety in the water following YMCA Swim Lessons curriculum.
• Build collaborative relationships with participants and parents to retain class numbers.
• Enforce safety procedures and rules of behavior within the class.
• Complete class recommendation forms with feedback for parents in a timely manner.
• If needed, arrange a substitute instructor and provide a prepared lesson plan.
