Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Swim Lesson Instructor to lead swimming lessons, promote safety, and support youth development and healthy living in line with YMCA policies.

You will create a positive learning environment, monitor student progress, and provide constructive feedback to both children and parents. The role requires certification upkeep and flexibility for additional aquatics programs as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16 years.
• YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification in accordance with YMCA standards, policies and procedures.
• ASHI certifications required before first shift: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Administration, Child Abuse Prevention Training, Information Security and Awareness, Workplace Harassment and Bullying, Universal Precautions, New Staff Orientation Assessment.
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

Responsibilities

• Knows and understands all emergency procedures and responds to emergencies immediately.
• Maintains all required certifications.
• Conducts swim lessons, as assigned, in accordance with YMCA standards.
• Develops swimming and water safety skills using organized patterns and teaching techniques.
• Provides positive feedback to students and celebrates progress.
• Creates positive parent experiences with orientation and ongoing feedback.
• Maintains attendance and progress records.
• Performs daily equipment checks and prepares equipment for classes.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings.
• May conduct private lessons or clinics as needed.
• Reports suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follows mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
• Meets timelines related to supporting systems and employee compliance.
