Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Part-Time Swim Lesson Instructor to lead swimming lessons, promote safety and positive youth development in our community. The role requires maintaining certifications, following YMCA procedures and engaging with families to provide a constructive learning experience.

The instructor will assess strokes, ensure safety, and collaborate with aquatics leadership to ensure high-quality lessons and participant progress.

Qualifications

• Minimum age of 16 years.
• Obtain YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification in accordance with YMCA standards, policies and procedures.
• Current/or must obtain prior to first scheduled shift: ASHI certifications for CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen (Administration), Child Abuse Prevention Training, Information Security and Awareness, Workplace Harassment and Bullying, Universal Precautions, and New Staff Orientation Assessment.

Responsibilities

• Provides leadership, instruction and motivation for participants in swimming lessons.
• Creates a safe and positive atmosphere promoting member safety and engagement, youth development and healthy living in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
• Knows and understands all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately and appropriately.
• Maintains all required certifications, in accordance with YMCA standards, policies and procedures.
• Conducts swim lessons, as assigned, in accordance with YMCA standards, policies and procedures.
