Position Overview:

Swim instructors plan and deliver engaging swim lessons using the Y of the USA swim curriculum in designated program areas for YMCA members, program participants, and non-members. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable, punctual, professional, and interacts enthusiastically with class participants.

Essential Functions

1. Demonstrate skills and explain them clearly to class members.
2. Plan each class and instruct at the appropriate skill and age level.
3. Observe all YMCA attendance and safety rules.
4. Maintain positive rapport with participants and parents.
5. Conduct classes according to YMCA standards and guidelines.
6. Ensure participant safety and understand emergency procedures.
7. Evaluate swimming skills and assign participants to appropriate classes.

Experience

• Public speaking ability and customer service orientation.
• At least 6 months of instructor experience in an aquatic setting preferred.

Certifications & Requirements

• CPR and First Aid certifications required within 90 days of hire.
• Current swim instructor certification (WSI or YSI) preferred; if not, must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
