The Y in Central Maryland is seeking a Swim Instructor to teach according to YMCA guidelines, ensuring safety and a welcoming learning space for all swimmers. You will assess abilities, adapt lessons, enforce pool rules, and promote YMCA swim programs while upholding our core values. Flexible availability including evenings and weekends is preferred.

Qualifications

• Prior swim instruction experience preferred.
• Current CPR/AED, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certifications.
• Preferred Lifeguard certification.
• Successful completion of the Y in Central Maryland swim test.
• Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends.
• Complete required new hire training, including Child Abuse Prevention, before start date.

Responsibilities

• Teach swim lessons based on YMCA curriculum and adapt instruction to meet needs.
• Ensure the safety of all participants by enforcing pool rules and supervision.
• Assess swimmer abilities and provide progression through levels.
• Prepare lesson areas and return equipment after use.
• Maintain consistent attendance and arrange substitutes when needed.
• Engage participants and encourage skill development in a supportive environment.
• Promote YMCA swim programs to participants and families.
• Support a clean, safe, and inclusive environment for all.
• Demonstrate and uphold the Y’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
