Job summary

The Y in Central Maryland is seeking a dedicated Swim Instructor to teach lessons in line with YMCA guidelines, ensuring safety and fostering an engaging, inclusive environment for all swimmers. You will assess abilities, adapt lessons, maintain clean, well-equipped spaces, and promote our swim programs while upholding the Y’s values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.

Qualifications

• Current CPR/AED, First Aid and Oxygen Administration certifications.
• Lifeguard certification preferred.
• Successful completion of the YMCA swim test.
• Flexible availability including evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Teach swim lessons based on YMCA curriculum and adapt instruction to learner needs.
• Ensure participant safety by enforcing pool rules and supervising lessons.
• Assess swimmer abilities and provide progression through levels.
• Set up lesson areas with required equipment and return items afterward.
• Maintain consistent attendance for scheduled classes.
• Engage with participants and encourage skill development in a supportive environment.
• Promote YMCA swim programs to participants and families.
• Support a clean, safe, and inclusive environment for all.
• Uphold the Y’s core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
