Job summary

Trane Technologies seeks a Thermal Systems Lead Engineer; Sustainable Design to embed sustainability into data center systems. You will set sustainability standards and quantify benefits, leading LCAs and EPDs with the enterprise sustainability team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7–10 years of engineering experience with a focus on sustainable designs for mission critical facilities and data centers.
• Experience in sustainable building design, energy modeling, or life cycle assessment.
• Deep knowledge of data center sustainability metrics (PUE, WUE, CUE).
• Familiarity with environmental regulations and green building certifications.
• Ability to influence cross-functional teams and collaborate with external partners.

Responsibilities

• Partner with engineering leads to ensure sustainable data center designs reflect multi-generational roadmaps.
• Act as an internal expert on sustainable data center designs.
• Develop sustainability standards for system reference designs and metrics for PUE, WUE, carbon footprint, and dB sound levels.
• Lead quantification of benefits around sustainable data centers and system reference designs.
• Develop and manage system-level LCAs and EPDs with enterprise sustainability team.
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to improve sustainability performance of solutions.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and cross-functional teams.
• Engage with regulatory bodies and industry forums on data center sustainability.
