Job summary

Trane Technologies in Davidson, NC seeks a Thermal Systems Lead Engineer for the Technical Loop. The role focuses on data center cooling solutions at chip, server, and rack levels, driving next-generation thermal management systems to support high-density compute, including AI factories.

You will own the technical loop design, collaborate with partners (e.g., NVIDIA), and drive innovation in direct-to-chip, immersion, and 2-phase cooling while aligning with customer roadmaps.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 7–10 years of engineering experience in thermal systems for data centers.
• Experience with single-phase and two-phase cooling technologies.
• Thermal systems experience with high-power processors/accelerators.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of multi-generational system roadmaps for the technical cooling loop, including AI data centers.
• Serve as internal expert on advanced cooling technologies (direct-to-chip, immersion, 2-phase cooling) and heat rejection system design.
• Collaborate with partners like NVIDIA to meet future chip architecture requirements.
• Translate customer requirements into detailed technical specs for equipment and controls teams.
• Own the technical loop thermal management system design within reference architectures.
• Drive innovation by evaluating new cooling technologies and components.
• Evaluate and select key components (pumps, valves, heat exchangers, piping) for reliability and efficiency.
• Provide coaching and mentorship to junior engineers and cross-functional teams.
• Represent the company in standards bodies like ASHRAE and OCP.
