Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Survey Rod Person for our Miami, Florida team. You will support field surveys using GPS, robotic total stations, and drones, contributing to maps and designs used by engineers and architects.

You will assist the Party Chief, manage field equipment, and help ensure accurate measurements across diverse terrains. The role requires reliable individuals with strong communication and a drive to learn.

Qualifications

• Good interpersonal skills and effective written and oral communication.
• Attendance, punctuality, organization, reliability, and eagerness to learn are essential.
• Must be able to work in inclement weather.
• A valid driver's license and clean driving record required. MVR will be checked.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Party Chief and/or Instrument Man as instructed.
• Keep survey crew vehicle supplied with field equipment, hammers, stakes nails, etc., clean and organized vehicle.
• Loads all needed equipment into the vehicles before heading out to the various properties that the crew will survey during the day.
• Help maintain all equipment in good working order and notify staff when repairs are needed.
• Clear brush or trees away from the survey line.
• Measures distances between points using a tape or electronic equipment.
• Assist with the various survey equipment.
• Search for section corners, property irons, and survey points.
• Hold the prism pole steady for the surveyor to determine elevations; plumb the rod for starting point.
• Lay out stakes for horizontal and vertical survey measurements.

Join our Survey/Geospatial team, which offers a full range of survey and geospatial data and mapping services that enable us to collect data faster, safer, and more accurately than ever before. Responsibilities

• Assist the Party Chief and/or Instrument Man as instructed.
• Keep survey crew vehicle supplied with field equipment, hammers, stakes nails, etc., clean and organized vehicle. Never leave the equipment unattended.
• Loads all needed equipment into the vehicles before heading out to the various properties that the crew will survey during the day. Unloads the specified equipment into the crew designated area to allow for daily inventory of the crew equipment.
• Help maintain all equipment in good working order and to notify the appropriate staff member(s) when equipment needs repair or replacement.
• Clear any brush or trees away from the survey line.
• Measures how far different points are from each other, using a tape or electronic equipment.
• Helps with the various pieces of survey equipment.
• Search for section corners, property irons, and survey points.
• Holding the prism pole steady for the surveyor to help determine elevations of different points. Using a level, the rodman will place the rod vertically in place - or plumb it - to ensure a correct starting point for the next measurement.
• Lay out stakes to prepare for horizontal and vertical survey measurements.

Qualifications

• Must be able to work in inclement weather.
• A valid driver's license and clean driving record required. MVR will be checked and monitored.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program.

Physical Requirements

• Must be physically able to work long hours and carry heavy loads.
