Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design seeks a Senior Survey Crew Chief in Phoenix, AZ. You will lead field surveys, supervise crew members, and coordinate with site supervisors to deliver accurate data and reports.

Proficiency with Total Stations, GNSS, and data collection is essential, along with a focus on safety and data quality. You will mentor staff, perform stakeout calculations, and ensure adherence to project objectives and standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; associate degree preferred.
  • 7+ years in surveying with 2+ years as Crew Chief or a 4-year survey degree.
  • Valid driver's license; CST II preferred; ability to obtain Drone License 107.
  • Strong English reading/writing for field communications and instructions.
  • Advanced knowledge of surveying practices and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and perform diverse field surveys within scope and budget.
  • Supervise and direct other survey crew members.
  • Interact with project site supervisors and client field reps.
  • Prepare accurate field notes and daily activity reports.
  • Perform in-field calculations for stakeout and land surveys.
  • Review and validate collected data; mentor staff on site.
  • Operate survey instruments and maintain field equipment.
  • Adhere to safety programs and SOPs; manage safety checklists.

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Senior Survey Crew Chief to join our Survey Discipline in Phoenix, Arizona. The Senior Survey Crew Chief conducts field surveys independently or with the assistance of other field crew staff. Responsibilities include performing and/or overseeing all field survey activities on assigned projects of varying complexity, using standard equipment, work, and safety methods. Perform site safety leader functions on site. Responsibilities
  • Plan and perform an increased variety of field surveys within the defined project scope and budget, using the most efficient methods, and in accordance with applicable standards of practice.
  • Supervise and direct other survey crew members.
  • Interact with project site supervisors and client field representatives.
  • Prepare accurate, detailed field notes and reports of daily activity in a timely manner.
  • Perform in-field calculations for construction stakeout and various land surveys with moderate assistance from office support team.
  • Prepare cut sheets for construction assignments as needed.
  • Review and determine the validity of data collection.
  • Demonstrate initiative in analyzing and developing solutions to issues encountered on projects.
  • Operate and maintain the survey vehicle in accordance with the Company vehicle manual.
  • Maintain, transport, and operate the instruments and equipment associated with surveying land and preparing the job site for a survey.
  • Adhere to corporate and client Health and Safety program(s) and all applicable SOPs.
  • Prepare or receive from the PM, the Health, and Safety Checklists. Review and instruct other crew personnel on all safety hazards, PPE, etc. associated with the work being performed.
  • Use and instruct others to properly use Total Stations, Data Collector, GNSS, and other specialized survey equipment to collect data.
  • Ability to perform a GPS calibration and run a Level Loop with a Digital Level.
  • Ability to troubleshoot common GPS/Radio issues.
  • Electronically transfer field data files, photos and associated forms to office team daily.
  • Mentor field survey staff to facilitate advancement.
Qualifications
  • High School/GED or equivalent, Associate's degree in a related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of related experience, 2+ years as Crew Chief, or graduate of an accredited four-year survey degree program.
  • Valid driver’s license required. CST level II preferred. Ability to obtain Drone License 107.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
  • Advanced knowledge of surveying practices and equipment.
  • Ability to effectively handle surveying equipment.
  • Effectively work as a team, collaborate, contribute and respect others.
  • Knowledge of math, geometry and trigonometry for the purpose of performing calculations.
  • Advanced organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Use of other computer software: Trimble Connect, Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, Excell.
  • Knowledge of Trimble Access’s features to include the use of 3D linework and models. Use of "General Survey" and "Roads".
  • Familiarity with the TSC5 and/or TSC 7.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record required. MVR will be checked and monitored.
  • Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

Requires a pre-employment drug screen and will require ongoing participation in the employer's random drug and alcohol testing program.
