Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a Surgical Technologist Program required.
• Current certification as a Surgical Technologist or certification within 6 months of employment required.

Responsibilities

• Checks supplies and equipment for the surgical procedure.
• Scrubs in the prescribed manner and dons sterile gown and gloves.
• Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
• Assist in positioning, skin preparation and draping of patient.
• Passes instruments required during surgery to the surgeon.
• Maintains sterile technique during the procedure.
• Assists with postoperative dressings.
• Assists circulator or scrub person in all specialties.
• Cleans and prepares surgical instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Maintains tray inventory after each surgical case.
• Transfers patients to and from the operating table.
• Prepares the Surgical Operating Suite for the next operation.
• Supports new programs and updates surgeon preference cards.
• Trains students and new employees.
• Demonstrates compassion and professional demeanor.
• Maintains accountability and respect.
