Qualifications

  • Two years of recent scrubbing in an acute care operating room.
  • Scrubbing in at least three service lines within the last two years: General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Orthopedics/Spine, Otolaryngology/Airway, Plastics, or Cardiac.
  • Proficiency in at least two surgical specialties.
  • Active AHA CPR certification for healthcare providers.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; or surgical technologist program graduate.
  • Flexibility to orient at all UCSF Health locations.
  • Weekend and on-call requirements.
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Select and set up instruments and equipment for surgical procedures.
  • Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during operations, maintaining a sterile field.
  • Ensure the surgical environment remains sterile throughout the procedure.
  • Orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations as required, demonstrating flexibility.
  • Maintain knowledge and adhere to behavioral standards within the scope of practice.
  • Promote service excellence by following UCSF Medical Center's PRIDE standards for communication and behavior.
  • Keep working areas clean and orderly, adhering to safety and infection control policies.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and competency in all interactions with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Assume accountability for improving quality metrics and meeting departmental targets.

Job description

**This position requires flexibility to work across various UCSF Medical Center locations, including Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland and Walnut Creek.**

The Surgical Technologist assists in the preparation, processing, and maintenance of supplies and equipment, and functions as a member of the surgical team during operative procedures. In addition to performing the duties of the Surgical Technologist, the Senior Surgical Technologist acts in a specialty service and utilizes and troubleshoots service implementation and equipment and is a resource to the Surgical Technologists.

The UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland (OR) consists of 11 surgical suites and 1 procedural.

Walnut Creek (OR) has two surgical suites and one special procedure room.

Our primary focus is multidisciplinary team-based approach and staffing.

Services include, but are not limited to: Neurology, Ortho/Spine, Otolaryngology, Urology, Plastics, Ophthalmology, Dental, Cardiac, General Surgery, GI, Hem/Onc.

All patient care team members are responsible to meet patient needs, demonstrate willingness to learn new skills, and foster a harmonious work environment in which high quality patient care and customer service is consistently provided. Team members promote a cooperative working relationship with each other, physicians, other disciplines and the public by facilitating and enhancing communication, displaying honesty and respect, displaying sensitivity to cultural differences, and expressing and accepting feedback in a professional manner.

    • Responsible for maintaining the knowledge and abilities essential to the performance of essential job functions and behavioral standards. Carries out responsibilities within the scope of Practice. Accountable to the NURSE SVC SUPV 2 for overall work performance.

Required Qualifications:
  • Two years recent scrubbing clinical experience in an acute care operating room
  • Recent experience (within last two years) scrubbing in at least three service lines: General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Orthopedics/Spine, Otolaryngology/Airway, Plastics, or Cardiac
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least two surgical specialties
  • Active American Heart Association (AHA) CPR Certification for healthcare providers
  • High School Diploma; or equivalent experience
  • Graduate of a surgical technologist training program; or equivalent experience
  • The flexibility to work and orient at all UCSF Health locations
  • Weekend and On-call Requirements
Preferred Requirements:
  • Certification as a Surgical Technologist.
  • Pediatric experience desired
License/Certifications:
  • Active American Heart Association (AHA) CPR Certification for healthcare providers
