Qualifications

• Post secondary education or equivalent is required.
• Experience assisting surgical teams and maintaining sterile fields is preferred.
• CPR certification within 90 days of hire is expected.

Responsibilities

• Prepares equipment and instruments on the back table and Mayo stand using sterile technique.
• Performs sponge, sharps, and other required counts with the circulating RN, as applicable.
• Assists the surgeon with gowning, gloving, draping, providing supplies and instruments throughout procedures.
• Cuts suture material, retracts tissue, and sponges tissue as directed by the surgeon.
• Maintains an organized sterile field with appropriate equipment and supplies throughout the procedure.
• Applies dressings at the completion of procedures, as appropriate.
• Adheres to universal precautions when removing draping materials, handling and containing instruments and equipment, managing linen and disposable items.
• Assists as a second circulator in the operating room, as directed by the circulating RN.
• Picks surgical cases and updates preference cards.
