Job summary

Community Health Systems, Inc. is seeking a certified Surgical Technician to join the operating room team. You will prepare the sterile field, anticipate team needs, and handle instruments to support safe, efficient patient care.

You will assist with positioning, draping, instrument counts, and room turnover, while maintaining infection control standards and collaboration with the perioperative staff. CST and BLS are required, with 0-2 years of OR experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Technical School graduate of Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program is required.
• Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences is required.
• 0–2 years of operating room surgical technician experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares the operating room by setting up instruments, equipment, and supplies based on the procedure.
• Maintains a sterile field and uses aseptic technique throughout procedures.
• Anticipates surgeon needs and passes instruments efficiently.
• Handles instruments per manufacturer instructions and hospital policy, including sterilization.
• Documents counts with the circulating nurse to support patient safety.
• Assists with patient positioning, draping, and transfer under RN direction.
• Maintains ongoing maintenance of physician preference cards and procedural documentation.
• Restocks supplies and prepares rooms for subsequent cases to maintain OR efficiency.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
