Job summary

University of Kentucky is seeking a Surgical Technologist with the ability to scrub a variety of cases and maintain a strict sterile field in the Operating Room. The role includes pass-off duties, case counts, and setup of sterile fields across day, evening, and night shifts with weekend/holiday requirements.

Preferred candidates graduate from an accredited surgical technology program or have related OR experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate from a CAAHEP/ ABHES accredited program of surgical technology; or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with at least 10 years in a Surgical Technician/Technologist role; or completion of a Surgical Technologist Certificate program and certified through AAH, NHWA, or NCCT; or NBSTSA certification; or graduate of a military training program; or UKHC employee already in a Surgical Technician/Technologist role as of 09/17/2016

Responsibilities

• Pass surgical instruments in operating room.
• Maintain sterile field and assist/perform surgical case counts.
• Opens room independently or with circulating nurse depending on case complexity.
• Sets up and maintains sterile field until the patient exits the room.
• Maintains a neat and orderly sterile field during each case.
• Passes instruments to surgeons, anticipating needs.
• Monitors for breaks in sterile technique and takes corrective action when identified.
• Performs counts in accordance with policy.
