Responsibilities

• Completely prepares sterile field in a timely manner and maintains it during procedures.
• Complies with policy on specimens, counts, and disposition of contaminated instruments.
• Assists the physician by sponging, suctioning, retracting, and cutting suture as required.
• Acts as preceptor, sharing knowledge in a supportive/educational manner.
• Maintains on-call availability.
• Assists in emergency situations prioritizing patient condition.
• Maintains a safe work environment per regulatory standards.
• Anticipates physician needs with sterile field readiness.
• Participates in the surgical Time Out process and ensures team agreement before proceeding.
• Prepares the surgical field and delivers supplies/instruments.
• Verifies instrument/supply/equipment availability per physician preference card.
• Reads scrub tips to verify physician needs.
• Assists with opening sterile supplies and instruments.
• Assists with cleanup and turnover after cases.
• Uses supplies efficiently to reduce costs.
• Collaborates with the health care team for a cooperative work environment.
