Job summary

Advocate Health Care in Illinois is seeking a Surgical Technologist for full-time day shifts with on-call rotation. You will prepare sterile fields, assist physicians, and uphold patient safety on every case.

The role requires graduate of surgical technologist program or 2 years scrub experience; certification as CST is expected within 3 months. On-call requirements include 30-minute response and rotating holidays.

Qualifications

• CPR certified.
• Certified Surgical Technologist certification will be obtained by the employee by sitting for the certification exam within 3 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Completely prepares sterile field in a timely manner; maintains the sterile field and boundaries prior to and during procedure.
• Assists the physician by sponging, suctioning, retracting, and cutting suture as required and instructed by the physician.
• Acts as preceptor, sharing knowledge in a supportive/educational manner.
• Maintains on-call availability.
• Assists in emergency situations as assigned, demonstrating appropriate actions and prioritizing to meet patient's condition.
• Maintains a safe work environment according to regulatory agency standards.
• Anticipates the needs of the physician as demonstrated by having all items required readily available on the sterile field.
• Participates in the surgical Time Out and does not allow the procedure to continue until all team members agree.
