Job summary

Brown University Health seeks a surgical technologist to join the operating team at Newport Hospital, providing safe and therapeutic care for patients across all ages. You will assist surgeons, manage instrumentation, and ensure aseptic technique while supporting efficient OR operations.

Candidates must hold a high school diploma or GED, be a graduate of an accredited technologist program (or possess an associate degree), and maintain current CST/NCCT-TC and BLS certifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or an associate degree program.
• Current CST certification; NCCT-TC certification for prior military applicants.
• 3 years of experience as a surgical technologist in past 5 years.
• Successful completion of Brown University Health on-the-job surgical technologist training.
• Completion of the Community College of Rhode Island certificate surgical technologist program.
• Current BLS certification on hire.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation and materials, such as sutures.
• Assists surgeon, passing needles, sutures, drains, medications and hemostatic agents.
• Maintains sterile field and aseptic technique per AORN standards.
• Sets up operating room, selects equipment and supplies efficiently.
• Ensures proper counts and retention of surgical items.
• Maintains safety and professionalism with team and patients.
• Keeps current with continuing education and community activities.

Education

Graduate of a surgical technologist associate degree program

Current CST certification

Current NCCT-TC certification

3 years of experience as surgical technologist
