Job summary

Brown University Health is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join the Newport Hospital team. The role supports the surgical team by providing instrumentation, passing needles and sutures, and anticipating the surgeon's needs as part of a safe, patient-centered environment.

The position requires compliance with AORN standards, BLS certification, and ongoing professional development. Work hours are day shifts, with a focus on teamwork and patient safety within a busy operating room.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or an associate degree in this field is preferred.
  • Current CST or NCCT-TC certification is required or strongly considered for military applicants.
  • 3 years of experience as a surgical technologist is acceptable in lieu of formal education.
  • Successful completion of Brown University Health on-the-job surgical technologist training is required.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates knowledge in instrumentation and materials (sutures).
  • Assists surgeon and anticipates needs.
  • Maintains sterile technique and asepsis per standards.
  • Set up surgical field and manage equipment and supplies.
