Job summary

Brown University Health in Newport, RI is seeking a Surgical Technologist to join the surgical team. You will provide a safe, therapeutic environment for patients of all ages and assist the surgeon by preparing and passing instruments, sutures and drains, while maintaining asepsis and BLS certification.

Responsibilities include accurate instrument setup, equipment handling, and collaboration with peers to optimize OR time and resources.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required for consideration.
• Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or associate degree.
• Current CST or NCCT-TC certification preferred for military experience.
• 3 years of recent surgical technologist experience is a plus.
• BLS certification required on hire and maintained.

Responsibilities

• Scrub in for procedures and demonstrate instrumentation and materials knowledge.
• Assist surgeon, pass needles, sutures, drains and hemostatic agents as needed.
• Prepare the sterile field, equipment, and supplies; maintain asepsis throughout.
• Ensure proper instrument setup, equipment handling and resource use.
• Adhere to AORN asepsis standards and maintain a safe patient environment.
• Maintain professional relationships and participate in ongoing education.
