Job summary

PeaceHealth in Longview, WA, is seeking a Surgical Technologist for the St. John Medical Center OR.

This .9 FTE day shift role supports a 5-OR suite with DaVinci XI robotics, providing sterile field preparation and instrument handling for operative procedures. Candidate must complete an accredited Surgical Technology Program, hold WA state registration, and have BLS; 1 year of OR tech experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist.
• Minimum of 1 year experience as a surgical technologist; prefer full-service OR experience.
• Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration; Basic Life Support Certification upon hire; Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.

Responsibilities

• Arrange and inventory sterile setup for operation and assist the surgical team.
• Maintain sterile field and aseptic technique throughout procedures.
• Assist in patient positioning and moving; ensure safety and comfort.
• Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instrumentation; assist with room turnover.
• Access digital information and preferences as needed; support safety initiatives.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the Surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the operative patient.

Essential Functions

• Arrange and inventories sterile set-up for operation and passes items as needed to the surgical team.
• Understand and apply the principles of asepsis. Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment.
• Assist in preparation and moving of patients.
• Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation. Assists with clean-up and room turnover.
• Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images.
• Participates in all safety initiatives. Adheres to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• Required: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist

Experience

• Required: Minimum of 1 year experience as a surgical technologist
• Preferred: Surgical Technologist experience in a full-service operating room
• Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs

Credentials

• Required: Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration
• Required: Upon Hire Basic Life Support Certification
• Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist

Skills

Working Conditions

Lifting

• Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
• Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
• Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
• Frequent reaching/ bending/ squatting/ kneeling/ grasping.
• Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs.
• Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force. Occasional up to 30 lbs. force.

Environmental Conditions

• Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
• Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

Mental/Visual

• Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
