Job summary

PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham, WA, seeks a Surgical Technologist for the Cardiac Team. The role supports cardiac surgeries and other procedures, with four 10-hour Day shifts weekly and rotating on-call. The unit features 10 OR suites within a 252-bed level 2 trauma center.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in a full-service OR, CVOR preferred, and Washington registration. Cardiac Team pay and relocation benefits are offered alongside a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Accredited Surgical Technology program preferred or equivalent training.
• Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at hire; Certified Surgical Technologist preferred.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the Surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the operative patient. In Cardiac Surgery, uses a variety of specialized equipment to assist the physician in the performance of invasive procedures resulting in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and peripheral vascular disease

Essential Functions

• Arrange and inventories sterile set-up for operation and passes items as needed to the surgical team.
• Understand and apply the principles of asepsis. Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment.
• Assist in preparation and moving of patients.
• Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation. Assists with clean-up and room turnover.
• Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images.
• Participates in all safety initiatives. Adheres to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives.
• May be required to provide scheduling support
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• Accredited Program Preferred: Surgical Technology. or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist preferred

Experience

• Required: 2 years Surgical Technologist experience in a full service OR.
• Preferred: 2 years CVOR Surgical Technologist experience
• Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs

Credentials

• Required: Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration
• Required Upon Hire: Basic Life Support Certification
• Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist

Working Conditions

Lifting

• Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
• Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
• Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
• Frequent reaching/ bending/ squatting/ kneeling/ grasping.
• Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs.
• Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force. Occasional up to 30 lbs. force.

Environmental Conditions

• Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
• Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

Mental/Visual

• Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
