PeaceHealth is seeking a Surgical Technologist for Peace Island Medical Center in Friday Harbor, Washington. In this role, you will assist the surgical team during operations, maintaining the sterile field and ensuring compliance with safety initiatives. This position requires an accredited training program, a minimum of one year of experience, and relevant certifications. The work schedule includes 8-hour day shifts with no weekends or nights. Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Unit: 2 OR Suites
• Hospital: 10‑bed critical access hospital

Job Summary

This position is responsible for assisting the Surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the operative patient.

Essential Functions

• Arrange and inventory sterile set‑up for operation and pass items as needed to the surgical team.
• Understand and apply the principles of asepsis. Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment.
• Assist in preparation and moving of patients.
• Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation. Assists with clean‑up and room turnover.
• Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images.
• Participate in all safety initiatives. Adhere to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• Required: Accredited Surgical Technology Program or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist
• Required: a minimum of 1‑year Surgical Technologist experience.
• Required: Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration
• Required: Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support Certification
• Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist
• Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age‑specific principles of growth, development, and life stages to meet each patient’s needs.

Working Conditions

Lifting

• Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
• Fine motor skills to be able to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
• Ability to move around area with occasional sitting.
• Frequent reaching, bending, squatting, kneeling, grasping.
• Lift/Carry: Frequently up to 15 lbs. Occasionally up to 20 lbs.
• Push/Pull: Frequently up to 20 lbs. force. Occasional up to 30 lbs. force.

Environmental Conditions

• Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
• Exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Time spent on site in medical/hospital setting.

Mental/Visual

• Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.

Benefits

Wage range: $39.75 – $59.63, a 15% per diem differential, and additional compensation for having your CST.
