Job summary

MercyOne Health System in Des Moines, IA is hiring a Surgical Technician to join our Operating Room team. The technician prepares the OR for procedures, maintains sterility, and may scrub on general, gynecologic, urologic, podiatry, and plastic surgery cases.

We require graduation from an accredited surgical technology program or LPN program with surgical experience; CST certification is preferred but not required in Iowa, with licensing considerations if cross-border work occurs.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology; completion of surgical tech apprenticeship or military program.
• Or graduate of an LPN program with surgical experience; or equivalent experience to demonstrate competency.
• CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa; CST within 18 months if working in Illinois; LPN license if LPN program graduate.
• No prior experience is required.
• BLS; Mandatory Reporter.
• Ability to work with diverse groups of people; work under pressure with independence and accountability.
• Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing tasks without loss of efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating room for surgical procedures including instruments, equipment, and supplies.
• Maintain the sterile field during the surgical procedure.
• Scrub in on general cases which may include general surgery, gynecology, urology, podiatry, and plastics.
