Job summary

UNC Rex Healthcare in Raleigh, NC seeks a Surgical Technologist I to support the OR West team in delivering safe, efficient intraoperative care.

Under surgeon and RN supervision, you will prepare instruments, maintain aseptic technique, assist in surgeries across multiple service lines, and participate in instrument planning and turnover to ensure patient safety. Part-time, onsite schedule with 24 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of UNC Health Surgical Technologist competencies.
• Strong communication skills/customer service relations.
• Excellent organizational/priority setting skill.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical skill duties in all operating room specialty service areas, ensuring proper technical practices.
• Maintains, assembles, and sterilizes specialty instrumentation.
• Follows aseptic technique and reports contamination or breaks.
• Performs surgical counts and reports discrepancies.
• Labels drugs and solutions; monitors quantities used.
• Assists in preparation and labeling of surgical specimens.
• Assists in planning instrument setup for procedures.
• Assists the surgeon by understanding anatomy and anomalies.
• Assists in selecting cases and planning instrument needs.
• Modifies scrubbing procedures as needed and communicates with the team.
• Responds to surgical emergencies and follows hospital plans.
• Inventories, receives, and stores supplies under leadership.
• Identifies defective instruments and restocks rooms.
• Assists RN during intraoperative phase.
• Operates complex equipment and troubleshoots as needed.
• Serves as a mentor/preceptor for Surgical Technician Trainees.
