Job summary

UNC Health in Raleigh, NC seeks a Surgical Technologist I to join OR West. Under the supervision of a surgeon and RN, you will support intraoperative care, ensure sterile technique, and prepare instruments and supplies for procedures in multiple service lines.

This full-time, 36-hour weekly role offers day schedules, BLS certification, and 0–3 years of experience. Salary ranges from $23.24 to $33.41 per hour, with pay offers determined by experience and internal equity.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical skill duties in all operating room specialty service areas, ensuring proper practices.
• Maintains, assembles, handles, and sterilizes specialty instrumentation.
• Follows aseptic technique and corrects any contamination or breaks in technique.
• Performs surgical counts and reports discrepancies.
• Labels drugs and solutions; monitors quantities used.
• Assists in preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.
• Plans and sets up instruments, supplies, and drapes for optimal access.
• Assists the surgeon with anatomical considerations during procedures.
• Assists in case planning and instrument needs selection.
• Adapts scrubbing procedures as needed for emergencies and communicates with the team.
• Manages inventories, receives, and stores supplies for Surgical Services.
• Identifies defective instruments and aids restocking of rooms and sub-sterile areas.
• Assists RN during intraoperative nursing activities.
• Operates complex equipment and troubleshoots as needed.
• Mentors Surgical Technician Trainees and acts as a preceptor when required.
