Job summary

UNC Health Johnston Health in Smithfield, NC, is seeking a Surgical Technologist I to support the Labor & Delivery unit on a part-time, on-site basis. You will assist the surgeon and RN, ensure sterile technique, and prepare equipment to facilitate safe procedures in a Level II setting with around 2,000 births per year across two campuses.

Work hours include night shifts with 24 hours per week. Prior experience is not required beyond 0–3 years, and BLS certification is required at hire.

Qualifications

• BLS for Healthcare Provider certification required.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program or military training equivalent.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs technical skill duties in operating room service areas with proper practices.
• Maintains, assembles, handles, and sterilizes specialty instrumentation.
• Follows aseptic technique and reports contamination or breaks.
• Performs surgical counts and reports discrepancies.
• Labels drugs and solutions and monitors quantities used.
• Assists with identification, preparation, and labeling of surgical specimens.
• Participates in instrument planning and setup for procedures.
• Assists the surgeon and RN, understanding anatomy and procedure needs.
• Recognizes需要 modifications to scrubbing procedures and communicates with the team.
• Inventories, receives, and stores supplies; restocks ORs as directed.
