UNC Health Johnston Health Labor & Delivery unit seeks a Surgical Technologist I to support sterile technique and instrument handling during procedures.

Under surgeon and RN supervision, you ensure safety, proper counts, and aseptic practices while maintaining readiness of supplies. The role is night shift, 36 hours per week, onsite at Smithfield, NC, with UNC Health Incentive Program opportunities.

Qualificações

• 0-3 years experience in surgical tech (preferred).
• BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program; or equivalent military training.

Responsabilidades

• Performs technical skill duties in operating room areas with proper practices.
• Maintains, assembles, handles and sterilizes specialty instrumentation.
• Follows aseptic technique and corrects contamination or breaks in asepsis.
• Performs surgical counts and reports discrepancies.
• Labels drugs and solutions; monitors quantities used.
• Assists in preparation and labeling of surgical specimens.
• Organizes instruments, supplies, and drapes for quick access during procedures.
• Assists surgeon by understanding anatomy and any abnormalities.
• Assists in case picking and planning instrument needs.
• Adapts scrubbing procedures based on case needs and communicates with the team.
• Responds to emergencies following hospital plans.
• Inventories, receives, and stores supplies under leadership.
• Identifies defective instruments and assists with restocking.
• Assists RN during intraoperative nursing activities.
• Operates complex equipment; troubleshoots as needed.
• Serves as a mentor/preceptor for trainees.
