Job summary

Mercyhealth seeks a Surgical Technologist to support surgeons in a dynamic operating room, preparing sterile fields, passing instruments, and ensuring patient safety across variable shifts.

The role requires CST certification, CPR/BLS within 90 days, and a graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the surgical team and contribute to ongoing improvement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Technology program required
• Certified Surgical Technologist through NBSTSA
• CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days
• IL LPN Licensure grandfathered in lieu of CST

Responsibilities

• Handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment during the surgical procedure and maintains sterile field.
• Assists the surgical team before, during, and after surgery.
• Checks instruments, supplies, and equipment needed for procedures.
• Sets up sterile table with instruments and supplies; prepares room for each procedure.
• Assists with patient placement and positioning; draping of sterile field.
• Performs counts for sponges, needles, and instruments with circulator.
• Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants; maintains sterile field.
• Passes instruments to surgeon during procedure; aids in dressing and dressings as needed.
• Cleans operating room and prepares for next patient; participates in performance improvement.
• Mentors new employees and student technicians; supports education for national certification.
