Atlantic Health System is seeking a Surgical Technician to support the operating room team. The role requires aseptic practice, setup of sterile fields, and close collaboration with surgeons and the nursing team.

Responsibilities include instrument and supply management, specimen handling, process adherence, and active participation in Universal Protocol and safety audits. Professional ST certification and ongoing education are expected.

Qualifications

• Must maintain ST certification as required by policy.

Responsibilities

• Performs asepsis and surgical scrub, gowning, and gloving.
• Assembles sterile supplies per patient and procedure requirements.
• Sets up sterile instrument table and prepares supplies according to operation type; assists in draping.
• Assists and anticipates surgeon needs for instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies.
• Maintains correct counts of sponges, needles, and instruments with circulating nurse.
• Maintains aseptic technique at all times and institute corrective measures in case of contamination.
• Assists in care, handling and disposition of specimens per policy.
• Inspects instruments, trays and packages to ensure sterility and proper functioning.
• Receives and labels solutions and medications on the sterile field; verifies with RN team.
• Participates in Universal Protocol; Sign in, Time out and sign out per policy.
• Participates in Fire Risk Assessment and communicates safety measures.
• Communicates malfunctioning equipment or instruments and requests removal from sterile field until review.
• Maintains sharps safety and directs safe handling within the sterile field.
• Maintains organized sterile back table and uses pre-cleansing solution before decontamination; assists with instrument cleaning.
• Assists with cleanup in OR and maintains safety at all times.
• Maintains professional relationships with team members.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education.
• Contributes to team efforts and safe patient outcomes through collaboration with peers, surgeons, and anesthesiologists.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
