Job summary

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a nationally or regionally accredited Surgical Technology / Surgical Technician program.
• Surgical Technician certification is required with CST credential.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• High School Diploma or GED within one year of hire.
• Candidates with prior OR experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates sterile field maintenance and aseptic technique.
• Prepares operating rooms with instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
• Anticipates surgeon’s instrumentation and equipment needs during procedures.
• Assists surgical team during routine and complex procedures with instruments and supplies.
• Handles OR instruments and equipment with proper maintenance and repairs as needed.
• Follows hospital policies and safety procedures to ensure safe patient care.
• Ensures accurate counting of instruments, sponges, and needles and proper specimen handling.
• Monitors the surgical environment and patient safety throughout perioperative care.
• Applies age-appropriate care across the lifespan (infant to geriatric).
• Collaborates with the perioperative team to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
• Expedites room turnover and supports general nursing activities within the department.
• Participates in professional development and quality improvement initiatives.
