Responsibilities include preparing the OR, maintaining sterile technique, anticipating needs, and supporting the surgical team through various procedures. A CST certification, BLS, and a completed Surgical Technology program are required.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a Surgical Technology program.
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST).
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• High school diploma or GED within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Maintains sterile field and aseptic technique across procedures.
• Prepares operating rooms with instruments, equipment, and supplies.
• Anticipates surgeon’s instrumentation and equipment needs during procedures.
• Assists surgical team with instruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Handles and maintains OR instruments and equipment; follows up on repairs and losses.
• Adheres to hospital and regulatory policies to ensure safe patient care.
• Performs accurate counts of instruments, sponges, and needles; handles specimens.
• Follows safety protocols for laser and electrosurgical equipment.
• Monitors physiologic environment to ensure patient stability during surgery.
• Applies age-appropriate care for patients from infant to geriatric.
• Collaborates with surgeons, nurses, and anesthesia providers for coordinated care.
• Expedites room turnover and supports efficient workflow between procedures.
• Assists in general nursing activities to support patient care.
• Communicates professionally with team and supports patient relations.
• Engages in continuing education and competency activities.
