Job summary

Melrose/Wakefield Hospital, part of Tufts Medicine, seeks an experienced full-time Surgical Technician to support the operating room team. The role involves assisting the physician as scrub tech, maintaining sterile technique, and ensuring instruments and supplies are ready for procedures.

Qualified candidates will have an OR background, surgical tech certification, BLS, and strong attention to detail. On-site duties include four 10-hour shifts with occasional on-call work every 6 weeks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program OR LPN in MA.
• Certification as Surgical Technician or completion within 12 months.
• BLS certification.
• Two years of Operating Room experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist in set‑up for specific surgical procedures per procedures and physician preferences; update physician preference cards.
• Set up case carts with instruments and equipment for next day cases.
• Serve as scrub person during procedures; maintain sterile field and pass instruments; track sponges, sharps, and instruments.
• Perform technical tasks beyond cutting, clamping, and suturing of tissues.
• Apply electrocautery to clamps under surgeon supervision.
• Assist RN/Transporter in transferring patient and preparing specimens for lab.
• Assist anesthesiologist and other staff in setting up equipment and obtaining supplies.
