Job summary

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate in English clearly, reading, writing and speaking.
• Basic aseptic/sterile technique and knowledge of instrumentation.
• Up-to-date knowledge of surgical instruments, supplies and procedures.
• Knowledge of regulatory requirements and local, state, and national laws.
• Ability to understand dictated instructions and directions.
• MS Office proficiency and basic computer skills.
• Ability to work in a high-stress environment with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Support the surgeon and first assistant during procedures by passing instruments and supplies.
• Maintain sterile technique and prepare the sterile field for operations.
• Monitor patient and surgical team conditions; anticipate needs during procedures.
• Assist with room turnover and prepare instruments for sterilization.
• Carry out counts of instruments, sharps and sponges per policy.
• Participate in safety checks and time-out verification to address discrepancies.
