Job summary

Community Health Systems is seeking a Surgical Technician PRN with varied shifts to support the operating room team. The role involves preparing sterile fields, assisting with procedures, and ensuring proper instrument sterilization and handling to maintain patient safety.

The position requires knowledge of surgical instrumentation, aseptic technique, and the ability to work closely with surgeons and perioperative staff. BCLS may be required; strong attendance is expected.

Qualifications

• Surgical technology knowledge and aseptic techniques.
• Strong instrument handling and sterilization understanding.
• 0–2 years operating room experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and maintains the operating room and supplies for procedures.
• Anticipates surgeon needs and passes instruments accurately.
• Handles instruments per use instructions and ensures sterility.
• Performs instrument counts with the circulating nurse for safety.
• Assists in patient positioning, draping, and transfers.
• Updates physician preference cards for supplies and instruments.
• Cleans, reprocesses, and sterilizes equipment per protocols.
• Restocks supplies and keeps ORs ready for next cases.
• Performs other duties and maintains regular attendance.
• Complies with policies and standards.
