Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a Surgical Technician to support surgical areas under the supervision of a surgical nurse. Responsibilities include verifying equipment and inventory, coordinating with surgeons on complex cases, and communicating with buyers and vendors about equipment needs.

The role requires OR experience, and familiarity with multiple surgical specialties. Pre-employment checks and flexible hours are part of the position.

Qualifications

• Completion of accredited Surgical Technologist training/institution or equivalent.
• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six months of hire date.
• Prior Surgical Technician experience.
• Minimum of two years of operating room experience in outpatient and/or inpatient setting.
• Experience in at least two specialties (Robotic Surgery, Total Joint, OB/GYN, Orthopedics, ENT).
• Demonstrated knowledge of surgical instrumentation used in various procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assists under direction of surgical nurse in less complicated surgical technician duties.
• Verifies specialty equipment and inventory for procedures.
• Contacts surgeons, buyers, vendors for equipment and supply needs.
• Communicates with staff regarding service and equipment issues.
• Notifies surgical supply companies of malfunctioning equipment.
• Provides in-service education to staff.
• Performs related duties as required.
