Job Title:Materials Manager/Surgical Technician
Location:Plantation, Fl.
Status:Full-Time, Monday to Friday (No Weekends, No On-Call), Hours may vary
Reports To:ASC Administrator/Director of Nursing
Position Summary:
This position is a dual role comprising of both Surgical Technician and Materials Manager.
The Surgical Technician role is responsible for assisting in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, ensuring surgical instruments and equipment are sterilized and ready, and providing support to the surgical team during procedures. This role requires a strong commitment to patient safety, attention to detail, and effective teamwork within a fast-paced environment.
The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement, inventory management, and distribution of supplies within the surgery center. This role ensures the facility is fully stocked with the necessary materials and equipment to support surgical procedures and overall operations, while maintaining cost-effectiveness, quality, and compliance with healthcare standards.
Key Responsibilities (Surgical Tech):
Preoperative Preparation:- Prepare and organize the operating room with necessary equipment and supplies for scheduled procedures.
- Ensure all surgical instruments and equipment are properly sterilized and in working condition.
- Verify patient identification, surgical site, and procedure in collaboration with the surgical team.
Intraoperative Support:- Assist surgeons and other members of the surgical team by passing instruments and supplies during procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure efficient workflow.
- Monitor and maintain sterile field to prevent contamination.
Postoperative Duties:- Clean and restock the operating room following procedures.
- Assist in the safe transport of patients to recovery areas as needed.
- Dispose of biohazard materials according to protocol and assist in the turnover of rooms.
Compliance and Safety:- Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines to ensure patient and staff safety.
- Maintain compliance with policies, procedures, and regulations specific to the surgery center.
- Participate in quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.
Collaboration and Communication:- Work effectively with surgeons, nurses, and other staff to promote a cohesive team environment.
- Provide feedback and suggestions for improving surgical processes and outcomes.
Key Responsibilities (Materials Manager):
- Inventory Management:
- Maintaining the supplies, equipment, and all materials for the daily operation of the surgery center
- Implement inventory control systems to minimize waste and prevent stockouts or overstocking.
- Conduct regular physical inventories and reconcile discrepancies.
- Monitoring savings opportunities, coordinates product evaluations, maintains savings logs, performs cost analysis and works closely with physicians in product evaluations.
- Overseeing all of the activities to ensure the availability of necessary instruments
- Procurement:
- Source and purchase supplies and equipment from approved vendors.
- Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers to ensure cost savings.
- Ensure timely ordering and delivery of supplies to support surgical schedules.
- Vendor Management:
- Maintain relationships with vendors
- Evaluate new vendors and products to improve supply chain efficiency and cost control.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure all materials are compliant regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate records of purchases, inventory levels, and usage trends.
- Coordinating physical inventory and completes the mandatory reporting bi-annually at the facility.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with clinical and administrative staff to forecast supply needs and coordinate timely availability.
- Participate in budgeting and planning meetings as it relates to materials and supplies.
Qualifications:
- Education/Certification:
- Completion of an accredited surgical technology program.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
- CPR certification required.
- Experience:
- Experienced in Orthopedic and Spine Surgeries.
- Experienced in Total Joint Replacement Surgeries
- Skills/Competencies:
- Knowledge of surgical instruments and procedures.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and patient privacy.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, lifting, and reaching.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Manual dexterity to handle surgical instruments and equipment.
Work Environment:
- Surgery center with exposure to sterilization chemicals, body fluids, and communicable diseases.
- Requires adherence to strict infection control policies and protocols.
