Job Description Summary

The Wind Technician position requires local travel within the hub (Blooming Grove, Lexington, and Bennington, Minonk IL). The Wind Technician is a critical and active role to maintain optimal function and output at the wind site by working daily on turbine operations, safety, quality control, and warranty repairs. The Wind Technician partners and communicates with the Site Lead and Manager to execute contract requirements and timelines, ensuring alignment with GE standards.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Work with site & hub leadership to execute contractual obligations per customer requirements and daily activities, including electrical and mechanical equipment used in GE wind turbines.
2. Perform maintenance, repair, or replacement of parts to correct malfunctions.
3. Troubleshoot complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems on turbines.
4. Assist in all site operations as directed by the manager, observing safety requirements.
5. Perform diagnostic electrical analysis.
6. Document all work using computer-based service reporting procedures.
7. Respond to GE’s remote operations center as needed.

Qualifications/Requirements

1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Minimum of 1 year experience as a Wind Technician/Wind Mechanic, or completed Wind Certificate Program/Associates Degree in Energy, or 2 years electrical work experience.

Eligibility Requirements

1. Passing a Technical Knowledge Assessment.
2. Basic computer skills.
3. Valid driver’s license.
4. Ability to handle weights up to 50 lbs and climb towers up to 300 feet daily.
5. Meet manufacturer weight limits (not exceeding 300 lbs including gear).
6. Ability to work in various environments including industrial and manufacturing facilities.
7. Prioritize work according to contract obligations.
8. Work independently and take initiative.
9. Work rotating shifts and be on-call as needed.
10. Overnight stays may be required.

Desired Characteristics

1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field.
2. Technical certification in Wind Energy or Electrical/Electronics.
3. Ability to work with diverse personnel.
4. Wind turbine experience.
5. Experience with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic systems.
6. Experience with hydraulic tools, heavy equipment, crane, and rigging.
